I recently began podcasting after years of blogging and social media engagement via multiple Twitter (primarily @0bytes, @ADubiousDude), Instagram and other accounts.

Why

This venture arose, like several of my information security peers, out of a desire to promote my career through social engagements.  A partner and I agreed to invest in this venture at professional information security strategists.  My decision to stand up a podcast about my faith followed as a way to re-purpose the equipment and practices into which I invest for podcasting, extending my stewardship of these tools and skills.

I was recently at the intersection of a need and an opportunity to invest in another computer at home.  Having switched from a quad-core desktop to a quad-core laptop a year ago I decided to get a similar laptop.  Instead of purchasing a lower cost machine I wanted to purchase a newer, mid- to high-end laptop.*

Between coding with some Visual Studio add-ins and editing large images and video I opted for a high performance Intel Core i7 machine with 12Gb of RAM.  I’m a fan of the 17+” monitor and spacious keyboards on those laptops so the biggest issue was processor, RAM and upgadability.

I Bought a Kindle 2.0

March 7th, 2009 Comments off

I’ve been eyeing an Amazon Kindle for several months now and recently discussed purchasing a duplexing laser printer with some friends.  One pointed out that if the bulk of single-side prints was the impetus for my purchase then perhaps I should revisit the Kindle for about the same price.  Great idea.

My Kindle 2.0 will be here next week (chick’s hand not included).
